Domaine Coche-Dury was officially founded in 1973 by Jean-François Coche and is one of the most revered producers of Chardonnay in the world, with a devoted following for their exceptional quality wines. Perhaps their most coveted wine is the Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne which comes from a tiny 0.33-hectare parcel that was planted in 1960. 2001 is a vastly underrated vintage for white Burgundy and this is now in its peak drinking window.

I was blown away by the power, verve and soil-driven complexity of Coche-Dury's 2001 Corton-Charlemagne. Full yellow in color, it’s approaching maturity but shows every sign of a continuing graceful evolution in bottle. Its vibrant apple, citrus peel and brown spice aromas and flavors have been joined by deeper notes of brioche, white truffle and porcini. This wonderfully tactile, plush wine boasts compelling sweetness leavened by lively acidity, and the musky, minerally, slowly building finish begs for a side of crustaceans.Stephen Tanzer1st August 2015
