Colgin IX Estate Syrah 2008 is a product of the Colgin Cellars in Napa, an estate renowned for its meticulous approach to viticulture and winemaking. This vintage showcases aromas of smoked meat, hints of black olive and herbal undertones, reflecting classic Northern Rhône Syrah traits. The palate exhibits dark fruit flavours alongside savoury notes and subtle spice. While full-bodied, the tannin structure is robust yet integrated, allowing for a lengthy finish. The estate`s steep hillside vineyards contribute to the wine’s complexity and overall freshness.
94 Vinous
(16% alcohol due to the tiny, concentrated berries, but balanced by 6.2 grams/liter total acidity): Saturated dark ruby! Brooding black fruits, black olive, lavender and flinty, smoky minerality on the nose. Dense, superconcentrated, rather wild flavors of saline olive tapenade, dark berries and smoked meat. Displays superb thickness and chewy depth but still needs time to gain in complexity and open. The tannins are dusty but not dry, and the finish is very long and spicy.Stephen Tanzer1st April 2017
