Colgin Cariad 2009 is an intricate blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, sourced from the distinct terroirs of the Napa Valley. This vintage unveils initial notes of mineral and gravel, leading to more profound layers of black cherry, roasted meats and hints of spice. The wine’s texture is rich and velvety, supported by a structured acidity. As it evolves, expect a complex profile that challenges preconceptions. Colgin Cellars, founded by Ann Colgin, is known for its commitment to terroir-driven wines, reflecting the unique characteristics of each vineyard site.
94 Vinous
(15.9% alcohol; 59% cabernet sauvignon, 22% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 9% petit verdot): Deep ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of blueberry, cherry, wild herbs and minerals. Initially creamy, fat and sweet in the middle but firmed up dramatically with air, ultimately showing a strong graphite minerality and much less lushness and easy sweetness. Finishes with a firm spine of building tannins. The most Medoc-like of this 2009 collection, and in need of at least several years of aging.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2012
