Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl is a white Alsace wine from Hunawihr. The 2014 vintage is a product of this high-altitude, south-facing monopole characterised by Muschelkalk limestone soils that promote a rigorous mineral structure. Olivier Humbrecht employs biodynamic viticulture and very slow fermentations to produce a wine of immense power, extract and phenolic depth. Despite the richness, the cool microclimate ensures a piercing acidity that defines the structural core and ensures remarkable longevity. It offers a complex profile of citrus oil, wet wool and a distinct flinty smokiness, remaining remarkably fresh and energetic a decade after harvest.

Pale bright yellow-green. Lemon, lime and mineral aromas are complicated by jasmine and honeysuckle on the perfumed nose. Then fresh and precise, offering ripe green apple and pear flavors given nice cut and clarity by lemony acidity. Actually tastes richer, rounder and more forward than usual despite an incredibly low 2.9 pH (but, for example, it also has 10 g/L residual sugar and 8.5 g/L total acidity, compared to the 8 g/L residual sugar and 8 g/L total acidity of the 2013). This lovely wine boasts sneaky concentration and noteworthy breed and race.Ian d'Agata1st March 2017
