Clos Windsbuhl Gewurztraminer Zind-Humbrecht 2019 exhibits characteristics influenced by its limestone terroir, which can lend a reductive quality in certain vintages. With airing, the wine reveals an array of exotic fruit notes balanced against a floral backdrop. This Gewurztraminer avoids the heavy profile often associated with the variety; instead, it showcases a delicate interplay of sweetness that remains understated. The finish is long and precise, highlighting a tension between freshness and fruit. Zind-Humbrecht is recognised for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture.

From 49-year-old vines on the calcareous Muschelkalk terroir far above the village of Hunawihr, the 2019 Clos Windsbuhl Hunawihr Gewurztraminer is deep, intense and aromatic on the initially moderately fruity and rather spicy nose that becomes super aromatic and fruit-intense after aeration and intermingles chalky terroir aromas with tropical fruit aromas reminiscent of pineapples, mangoes and lush melons. Rich but elegant and refined on the palate and provided with a certain freshness that also becomes more obvious with aeration, this is a pretty sweet yet tight and finely tannic, not really dry but tending toward dry-finishing Gewürztraminer "moelleux" that is reserved, even snappy, if poured straight from the bottle, yet it`s just far too young, though it has promising talents if aerated for a day or two. 13.1% alcohol including 35.6 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted in November 2024. - Stephan Reinhardt
