There are currently four separate Gros domaines in Burgundy, all related to each other. Anne Gros, Anne-Françoise Gros, Michel Gros and Gros Frère et Sœur, which is based in Vosne-Romanée. The estate covers 19 hectares of vines, and it is run by Bernard Gros and his son Vincent. This particular release hails from Clos de Vougeot, where the Domaine owns a 1.5-hectare parcel. 2005 is widely regarded as a legendary vintage across the board and the still remaining wines are in very high demand.

Good deep ruby-red. Black fruits, redcurrant, smoke, minerals and nuts on the complex, soil-driven nose. Voluminous, silky and round, with the impression of soil character carrying through in the mouth; complicating notes of game and leather. A very rich and satisfying wine with a long, broad finish featuring dusty tannins. More noteworthy for its sheer size than for its cut and precision. Drink this now or over the next 30 years, says Gros.
