Established in 1890, Château de la Tour is the largest proprietor of the Clos de Vougeot, with approximately 5.5 hectares of vines. The château itself was built in 1890, and today serves as the winery for both Château de la Tour and Domaine Pierre Labet. The old vines at Clos de Vougeot have an average age of 67 years, with a 1-hectare plot planted in 1910. The domaine has been organic since 1992 and it’s currently led by François Labet. This release is from the 2011 vintage, which proved to be a challenging year for growers, yet the wines turned out well.
92 Vinous
(50% new oak; the 2011s were racked for the first time in March of 2013 and bottled in July): Bright, fresh, deep red. Spicy black cherry, licorice, chocolate and graphite on the nose. Tactile, saline and juicy on the palate, with enticing peppery lift to the silky dark berry and spice flavors. Classically dry, energetic, firmly tannic and long but not a bit hard.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2014

Lots of bitter cherry fruit and, for the moment, a corset of dry tannins. Very much made for the long term. A bit tight but correct. All reined in for now. (JR)Jancis Robinson14th October 2014
