The 2008 Clos St-Denis from Domaine Dujac is a Grand Cru Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Dujac, established in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, has built a reputation for meticulous vineyard management. The 2008 growing season presented challenges due to cool and wet conditions. This wine displays aromas of red cherry and earth, underpinned by subtle spice notes. The palate reveals a structured profile, with lingering depth and complexity. Currently, it is approaching its drinking peak but has the potential for further development over the next decade.

The 2008 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has great transparency on the nose: red cherries and raspberries, lovely sous-bois notes and a light touch of wild mint mixed with dried herbs. The palate is very well balanced with a more "airy" composition compared to the 2010 tasted alongside. Again, it is the transparency that really marks this out. With tangy orange peel on the precise finish, this is impressive, considering the challenges of this season. Tasted blind at the Wallace brothers' Xmas dinner.Neal Martin1st March 2023

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
