Clos du Clocher 2009 is a full-bodied Right Bank Bordeaux from the Clos du Clocher estate located in the heart of Pomerol. The state was founded by wine merchant Jean-Baptiste Audy in 1924 and is now run by Audy`s great-grandson, Jean-Baptiste Bourotte. The blend for this cuvée is typically around 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc - the Merlot portion bringing roundness and depth; the Cabernet portion more elegance and finesse. This bottling is from the exceptionally good 2009 vintage. "Attractive acidity combines with a judicious use of wood aging, producing a wine that is fresh, fragrant and ripe. It has weight while remaining lively and fruity." Wine Enthusiast, 2013

Still young, majoring on black cherry, damson, black olive, rich and luscious tannins, with a juicy mid palate and mint leaf kiss on the finish. This reflects the more robust Pomerol style of the time, with a muscular architecture, but they are well honed muscles, and the excellence of this site comes through. First year with Cécile Dupuis technical director, then aged 23. Cold winter, then warm Spring with early budding, and some storms then good weather as of mid May. 55% new oak for ageing. This is the original tasting note from earlier in the summer, but it was tasted again at this larger retrospective of the 2009 and 2010 vintages, and absolutely delivered again, a one point upscore.Jane Anson10th October 2024

The 2009 Clos du Clocher has long been one of the best wines in recent years. It offers plenty of blackberry, raspberry and wild strawberry notes on the nose, powerful and much less rustic than the 1999 served alongside. The palate is again, powerful and concentrated with layers of tightly wound black fruit laced with cedar and tar, merging towards a lightly peppered quite structured and almost Left Bank finish. Excellent. Tasted at the château.Neal Martin1st March 2019

The finest Clos du Clocher ever made, the 2009 has an inky bluish/purple color and a big, sweet kiss of black raspberry liqueur intermixed with blackberries, subtle smoke and spring flowers along with hints of mocha and coffee. It is full-bodied, rich and pure, with sweet tannin and low acidity. Interestingly enough, the proprietor always brags that he doesn’t want to make great wine because it would fetch a higher price and he would have to pay more taxes, but he certainly has done that in 2009. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.Robert Parker29th February 2012
