The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is yet another wine suffering a lot of reduction on the nose, though underneath there also seems to be just a touch of brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied but with good volume in the mouth; this feels quite fleshy, but underneath there is a solid frame. Turns toasty toward the finish, with wood tannins too prominent for my own liking, but they might be assimilated with bottle age. We will see. After a scintillating showing from barrel, you have to ask where this might be heading. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin1st November 2018

Domaine de la Vougeraie

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
