Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded in 1999 by the inimitable Jean-Claude Basset. With holdings in some of the most prestigious appellations of Burgundy, viticulture and winemaking is meticulous and is both fully organic and biodynamic certified. The domaine’s elegant and well-defined 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was sourced from two parcels of old vines and was fermented with 53% whole bunches with maturation for 16 months in French oak, 35% of which was new.
Vinous
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru shows a lot of reduction on the nose that occludes the fruit and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, rather simplistic for a Grand Cru and with some dry wood tannins on the finish. I am not convinced about the ageing potential of this wine. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin1st October 2019

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
