Jean Grivot is one of the leading wine producers in Burgundy. The estate is currently run by the husband-and-wife team Étienne Grivot and Marielle, who took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The Domaine has been assembled over several generations to its current size of 15.5 hectares and includes holdings in three Grand Cru sites. Echézeaux, Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot where this cuvée comes from. The 2010 growing season in Burgundy was characterized by cool temperatures and a long, slow ripening period. This allowed the grapes to develop complex flavours and maintain good acidity levels.
94 Vinous
Good bright, medium red. Pungent minerality, complex soil tones and noble herbs on the nose. Then sweeter and fuller than the Beaux Monts in the mouth, with slightly medicinal cherry and marzipan flavors complicated by herbs and underbrush. With its solid acidity, this is ultimately more backward than the Beaux Monts. Most impressive today on the back end, which features substantial ripe tannins and building flavors of black cherry, licorice and mint. The pHs in 2010 are in the 3.45 to 3.5 range, noted Grivot, with acidities between 3.6 and 3.7 grams per liter.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2013
