Domaine Jean Grivot is one of the leading wine producers in Burgundy. The estate is currently run by the husband-and-wife team Étienne Grivot and Marielle, who took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The domaine has been assembled over several generations to its current size of 15.5 hectares and includes holdings in three Grand Cru sites. Echézeaux, Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot where this cuvée comes from. The 2020 vintage offers good complexity on the nose, a long and satisfying palate, with ripe red fruit and sweet tannins.

Mocha, cherries, and cedar can be detected in the nose of the 2000 Clos Vougeot. Deep and intensely flavored, it boasts a blackberry, cassis, currant, cedar, and earth-laced character. Its admirably long, expressive finish reveals loads of ripe tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2010.
Concerning the 2000s, Grivot said it was “a superb vintage, one of my finest. The grapes had great ripeness, with sufficient freshness.

Good bright medium red. Reticent, slightly sullen aromas of plum, licorice, nuts and earth, along with a hint of resiny oak. Generous but low in acidity; seems a bit evolved for this wine, almost like a low-sulfur barrel sample. Textured and rich but lacking real primary fruit and cut. Finishes with chewy, slightly dry tannins. Perhaps bottled a bit later than ideal.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2003
