Domaine Jean Grivot is one of the leading wine producers in Burgundy. The estate is currently run by the husband-and-wife team Étienne Grivot and Marielle, who took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The domaine has been assembled over several generations to its current size of 15.5 hectares and includes holdings in three Grand Cru sites, Echézeaux, Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot where this cuvée comes from. The 1996 vintage is widely acknowledged as an excellent year for Burgundy, especially celebrated for the wines of the Côte de Nuits.

Vinous
Red-ruby color. Slightly floral aromas of wild plum, licorice and roasted nuts, plus a smoky, vegetal complexity. Rather angular and inexpressive in the mouth, needing time to wake up and harmonize. This has strong acidity yet comes across as rather flat today. Un vin a oublier completement, says Grivot.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1999
