Comprised of just over 21 hectares, Domaine Leroy boasts impressive holdings across nine grand crus and eight premier crus, all farmed biodynamically. The domaine is currently led by one of the most influential women in the French wine industry, Lalou Bize-Leroy – who also manages Maison Leroy and Domaine d`Auvenay. This release is the domaine’s Clos de Vougeot, a classified grand cru site since 1937. From an excellent vintage marked by great concentration and ripeness.

Bright ruby-red. Spicy, scented aromas of black cherry, flowers and pungent oak. Highly concentrated, delineated and classy, but currently rather folded in on itself. Has the medicinal character of young Clos Vougeot but this is also plenty ripe. Very young and very long, with firm but harmonious tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2001

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
