Château Clinet 2009 is a notable Pomerol wine crafted primarily from Merlot, with small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate, known for its rich history dating back to the 18th century, has garnered a reputation for producing structured wines with significant ageing potential. This vintage presents a deep garnet hue, revealing aromas of ripe dark fruit, chocolate and subtle earthy notes. Its texture is velvety, accompanied by firm tannins and a well-integrated acidity. This wine is expected to evolve gracefully, offering complex layers over the next two decades.

This is a big muscular 2009 but it is great quality, hard to argue with, full of deliciously textured and plump black cherry fruits, sculpted, powerful, intense, black chocolate, charcoal, creme caramel and fennel spice. A one point upgrade from last year's tasting, as it stands out among its peers. 60% new oak. Ronan Laborde owner.Jane Anson10th October 2024

The 2009 Clinet has an impressive and complex bouquet with liquorice and truffle infused black fruit, hints of desiccated orange peel and even a dab of honey. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, succulent, and fine tannins (although not as fine as the 2009 La Conseillante) with a dense, precocious and heady finish. There is hedonism here, but it is on a tight leash. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st March 2019
