Château Climens 2009 is a sweet white Bordeaux wine from the Sauternes-Barsac appellation. This 2009 vintage follows the estate`s transition to biodynamic farming, capturing the intense botrytis development fostered by a warm, dry September followed by timely October rains. Vinification occurred in 100% new French oak barrels. The wine presents a profile defined by ethereal lift, as the high limestone content in the red clay soils provides a nervous acidity to balance the 151.8g/l of residual sugar. Aromatics of crystallised ginger, saffron, apricot and white blossom lead into a palate of remarkable precision and tension.

The 2009 Climens is much more vibrant on the nose than the 2010 with lovely dried honey, quince, saffron and light chamomile aromas. It blossoms in the glass and gains intensity with each swirl. The palate is very well balanced with a touch of marmalade on the entry, quite tensile from start to finish with a rather long, viscous finish. This is just beginning to motor. Tasted at the Climens vertical at the château in April 2022. Neal Martin18th August 2022

Tasted blind. Deep orangey gold. Creamy interesting nose. Racy and lively and lots of fun with masses of freshness and attack. (JR)Jancis Robinson14th February 2019
