Chevalier Montrachet Domaine Leflaive 2009 is a Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Burgundy region. Grapes for this wine are sourced from the Chevalier-Montrachet vineyard, known for its limestone-rich soils and optimal sun exposure, which enhance the fruit`s complexity. Domaine Leflaive has been a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, significantly impacting the quality of its wines since the 1990s. The 2009 vintage offers a balance of ripe fruit character and minerality, featuring notes of pear, toasted almond and a hint of flint.

The 2009 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from an era when it's a bit like Russian Roulette trying to avoid premox'd bottles. Fortunately, this bottle is fine. It has an exquisite, haunting bouquet with hints of white truffle and yellow fruit bursting in slow motion. Lemon balm hints appear throughout. The palate is well-balanced with superb weight. Plenty of extract lends umami towards the finish. This convincing Chevalier-Montrachet will age well in bottle. Neal Martin25th June 2024

Very fine and nervy and a positive neurotic ballerina of a wine. Delicate, much much more backward than the Bâtard. The nose needs some encouragement of the glass. Very delicate and nervy on the palate. It would be so easy to dismiss this blind at this early stage as it is virtually all potential rather than reality. Lots of micro elements whizzing about but no resolution. Very very youthful and tortured at the moment. Real lift on the end. Very very light. Long. (JR)

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
