With several 100 point scores to its name, Cheval Blanc`s 2009 is a Merlot (56%) and Cabernet Franc (42%) blend (the rest Cabernet Sauvignon) from one of Bordeaux`s greatest estates in one St Emilion`s most celebrated vintages. It offers deep garnet colour and a profound nose of baked blueberry, blackberry compote and cassis, layered with chocolate and floral lift. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with super fine-grained tannins, real freshness and impressive length despite the wine`s power. This 18-litre Melchior format, hand-blown and rare, suits long-term cellaring and slow evolution. Approachable young, it has decades ahead of it; serve with lamb, duck or mature cheese.
100 Robert Parker
Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Cheval Blanc offers up profound notions of baked blueberries, blackberry compote and crème de cassis with suggestions of chocolate mint, new leather and cloves plus a waft of candied violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in elegance with very classy, super fine-grained tannins, beautiful freshness and layer upon layer of mineral-laced blue and black fruits, finishing long and perfumed.

The Star of Saint-Émilion

With a history dating back as least as far as the 16th century, Château Cheval Blanc is considered by many to be one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the Right Bank in the celebrated Saint-Émilion appellation. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types: clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances, aged 100% in new oak.

In addition to the highly-coveted first wine, the estate produces a second red wine, Le Petit Cheval which made its first appearance in the 1988 vintage. A white wine, known as Le Petit Cheval Blanc, is also made, produced from predominantly Sauvignon Blanc together with a smaller percentage of Sémillon.
