The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes Marcoux 2007 is an old-vine red blend primarily crafted from Grenache, alongside smaller proportions of Mourvèdre and Syrah. This vintage features grapes sourced from century-old vines, resulting in concentrated flavours and complexity. On the palate, it displays a robust structure with substantial tannins and balanced acidity. Marcoux remains a family-owned estate committed to organic farming, reflecting a dedication to sustainable viticulture. This wine requires further ageing for optimal expression, with a potential cellaring window exceeding two decades.

Vinous
Glass-staining ruby. Expansive, highly perfumed aromas of cherry-cola, boysenberry, licorice, pipe tobacco and potpourri, with a bright mineral quality adding urgency. Seamless, palate-staining red and dark berry compote flavors pick up notes of spicecake and candied flowers with air. The finish is almost shockingly lithe, showing strong lift and a persistent floral quality. Sophie Estevenin told me that this wine clocks in at 17.2% alcohol; those who plan on driving home after a few glasses of this nectar have been warned.Josh Raynolds1st January 2010
