Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieille Julienne 2005 is a red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Southern Rhône. Domaine de la Vieille Julienne is a highly revered producer, famous for its powerful and concentrated wines from biodynamically farmed old vines. The 2005 vintage was an excellent year in the Southern Rhône, producing structured, long-lived wines. This bottling, a blend primarily of Grenache, presents a complex bouquet of dried red fruits, garrigue and black olive, with tertiary notes of leather and spice. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with a dense, silky texture and a firm structure that is still evolving.

The concentrated 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape unfurls with prominent tobacco, dried fruit, leather and raisin. Full-bodied, rich and layered, the 2005 remains a markedly tannic Châteauneuf-du-Pape that puts power over elegance and finesse. That said, it is a highly enjoyable red that will continue to drink well for at least five more years.Nicolas Greinacher13th June 2024
