Domaine de la Barroche Julien Barrot Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020 is a full-bodied Southern Rhône blend from the French heartland of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Julien Barrot cuvée - named after winemaker Julien Barrot who manages the domaine with his sister, Laetitia - is the flagship wine of the domaine and is produced from organically farmed old vines, many of which are over 100 years old. The winemaker has a stylistic preference for fresh, elegant wines - wines with an emphasis on finesse over power. The grapes for the Barrot cuvée undergo a long pre-ferment maceration in the domaine`s distinctive tulip-shaped cement tanks. This is followed by spontaneous fermentation with some stems and maturation in a combination of large foudres and demi-muids for 20 months. 60% Grenache, 19% Mourvèdre, 13% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 1% Vacarrese, 2% assorted other varieties. “This vintage offers great intensity, crispy red fruits, liquorice and violets. It has a long and ample mouthfeel. Powerful and structured, this cuvée reveals perfectly the sandy soils of the domaine.” Julien Barrot
