The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin 2007, produced by Domaine de la Janasse, showcases a blend primarily of Grenache from 60 to 80-year-old vines. Crafted under the guidance of Vincent Avril, the wine undergoes maturation in neutral oak foudres, allowing its intrinsic qualities to shine. Characterised by a deep ruby hue, this vintage offers notable acidity alongside concentrated fruit notes of kirsch, blackberries, and subtle spices. Its structured tannins suggest significant ageing potential, making it suitable for further cellaring. This wine exemplifies the nuances of terroir and the impact of age on vine quality.

Opaque ruby. Spicy raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by garrigue and Asian spices. Sweet, focused red fruit flavors are given spine by zesty minerality and pick up an exotic floral quality with air. Expands nicely on the finish, leaving behind sweet lavender pastille and raspberry notes.Josh Raynolds1st January 2010
