Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois 2007 is a full-bodied red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhône Valley. M Chapoutier is one of the largest and most renowned family wine producers in the Rhône Valley, acting both as a producer and a négociant with activity across all of the major appellations. Led my the charismatic Michel Chapoutier, the company has been fully biodynamic across its estate vineyard holdings since 1991. The Croix de Bois cuvée is part of Chapoutier`s Fac et Spera Sélection Parcellaire range and is a 100% Grenache from vines planted on pebbly soil over sandy red clay subsoil, just above the vineyard area used for Chapoutier`s Barbe Rac cuvée. "Ruby-red. Pungent, deep aromas of red berry preserves and kirsch, with notes of smoky Indian spices and minerals adding complexity. Broad, liqueur-like red fruit flavors coat the palate and show a distinctly warm, slightly roasted character, with gentle back-end lift. Finishes sweet and impressively persistent, with repeating smoke and spice notes. This rich, serious wine will need equally rich food." Vinous, 2010

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
