Clos Saint Jean is run by brothers Vincent and Pascal Maurel and is considered amongst the very finest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. La Combe de Fous translates as the hill of the fool, and is a reference to their great-great-grandfather, Edmund Tacussel, who in 1905 planted Grenache vines in one of the hilliest and most inhospitably stoney sections of the iconic Le Crau sub-region. It is this ancient vine fruit that forms the backbone of this cuvée, a remarkably rich yet velvety wine that rides the perfect line between immense power and beguiling elegance.

Full ruby. An exotic, highly perfumed bouquet evokes red and dark berry preserves, star anise and a whiff of Grand Marnier. Juicy, palate-coating raspberry and boysenberry flavors show a felicitous blend of power and vivacity, with no rough edges and slow-building spiciness. Closes on a sweet note, with lingering anise and floral notes.
