Eric Rodez Cuvée des Grands Vintages Edition 34 NV of 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Noir, sourced primarily from the Grand Cru vineyards of Ambonnay. Stemming from multiple vintage reserves, the blend includes 24% from 2017, 31% from 2016, and 18% from 2015, demonstrating a thoughtful layering of flavours over time. Vinified primarily in oak barrels, this edition showcases Rodez`s commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, utilising treatments that include aromatherapy. This is a complex and highly textured Champagne showcasing a rich aromatic profile of toasted nuts, dried stone fruits and warm spices, with a powerful yet integrated palate offering a broad, vinous mouthfeel, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish.

Deeper and richer, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus ex Machina has been nothing short of perfection on the 3-4 times I’ve been lucky enough to try it. Muscular and powerful, with a serious, full-bodied profile, it gives up incredible aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, licorice, graphite, beef blood and loamy earth. Like most 2010s at this stage, it’s backwards and dense, and needs to be forgotten for another couple of years. This beauty will have 2-3 decades of overall longevity. - Jeb Dunnuck

Dark and brooding, the 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus Ex Machina screams from the glass with pronounced tobacco, melted licorice, blackberry liqueur, forest floor, dried lavender and a touch of dark chocolate. Opulent and rich to an almost obscene degree, the ultra-intense 2010 isn’t aimed at those seeking elegance and restraint in a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Yet, putting stylistic preferences aside and solely focusing on the quality, the craftsmanship and attention to detail simply cannot be ignored. This is a singular elixir from one of the finest vintages Châteauneuf-du-Pape has ever seen.Nicolas Greinacher1st November 2024
