Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaucastel 2001 is a full-bodied red wine from the Southern Rhône, showcasing the Beaucastel estate`s intricate understanding of its terroir. The blend comprises primarily Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, among others, reflecting the region`s 13 traditional grape varieties. This vintage stands out for its concentrated dark fruit notes, infused with nuances of game and herbal undertones. Established in 1549, Château de Beaucastel is notable for its biodynamic practices, enhancing the wine’s complexity.

Bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like raspberry, licorice and a medicinal quality on the nose. Then quite backward in the mouth, with very primary dark berry and black cherry flavors hinting at great ripeness. Quite primary today and less animal than usual for a young Beaucastel. Elegant, slow-building finish features fine-grained tannins and excellent grip.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2004
