Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaucastel 2001 embodies the intricate heritage of one of France`s esteemed wineries, renowned for its commitment to organic cultivation since the 1960s. This vintage showcases a deep red hue, complemented by a complex bouquet of ripe dark fruits, spices and earthy undertones. On the palate, a blend of nuanced flavours emerges, revealing a structure that balances freshness with ripeness. With 22 years of bottle age, the tannins have softened, making this wine accessible now. A careful decanting is advisable to enhance its characteristics.

Bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like raspberry, licorice and a medicinal quality on the nose. Then quite backward in the mouth, with very primary dark berry and black cherry flavors hinting at great ripeness. Quite primary today and less animal than usual for a young Beaucastel. Elegant, slow-building finish features fine-grained tannins and excellent grip.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2004
