The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac Chapoutier 2007 is a prominent red wine from the Southern Rhône, crafted predominantly from Grenache grapes. This wine showcases the complexity of the region, characterised by its structure and depth. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, established in 1936, is known for its diverse terroir, contributing to the wine`s distinctive profile. Chapoutier, a respected producer since 1808, emphasises biodynamic practices, honouring the rich heritage of this iconic wine. Suitable for cellaring, it reflects the nuances of its terroir.
98 Robert Parker
The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac, which comes from the western part of the appellation from a vineyard planted in 1901 and 1902, is, like the Croix de Bois, 100% Grenache aged totally in cement tanks. It boasts a dense purple color along with a sumptuous nose of black raspberries, black currants, incense, camphor, licorice, and garrigue. Full-bodied, voluptuously-textured, exuberant, rich, and pure with stunning depth and concentration, it can be drunk young or cellared for 15-20 years. Chapoutier’s holdings in Chateauneuf du Pape continue to grow as he purchased the Bois Dauphin estate recently. He now owns 100 acres (all planted with Grenache) in the appellation (all of them biodynamically farmed). - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
90 Vinous
Bright ruby. Seductive bouquet of ripe red berries, roasted herbs and potpourri. Fleshy and deeply concentrated, offering slightly warm raspberry and cherry compote flavors with a hint of smoke. Creamy on the finish, delivering a serious wallop of rich red fruit and a bit of heat. Impressive for its power but this will be a tough match at the table.

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
