Discover the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac by Chapoutier, vintage 2000. This Southern Rhône red is crafted predominantly from Grenache, reflecting the region`s terroir and winemaking heritage. Chapoutier, renowned for its biodynamic practices, has been a significant player in Rhône viticulture since the 19th century. The wine presents a robust structure and depth, offering complex notes of dark fruits, herbs, and spice. Ideal for connoisseurs seeking a nuanced understanding of this historic appellation. Perfect for culinary pairings or cellar aging.

Bright red-ruby. Superripe, slightly high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry, spice cake and mint. Large-scaled, sweet and deep; thick but bright and sharply delineated. Extravagant but youthfully backward flavors of candied fruits, mace and nutmeg. This has superb depth of fruit for the vintage. Finishes with thoroughly sweet tannins and outstanding length. A very strong 2000 that I significantly underrated a year ago.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2003

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
