Pierre-Yves Colin, the eldest son of Marc Colin, spent over a decade as the winemaker at his father`s estate, working from 1994 to 2005. Subsequently, he and his wife, Caroline Morey, founded their own winery, consolidating vineyards passed down through their respective families. This specific cuvée hails from the Premier Cru vineyard `Les Chenevottes,` where they own a 0.62-hectare plot. The wine opens with an intense smoky aroma, accompanied by notes of white peach, lemon, oak, and a touch of vanilla. It is bursting with flavour but not overdone. A pure class act that is drinking well now but should have a long life ahead of it.
Vinous
Bright lemon-green. Reticent aromas of white stone fruits, fresh herbs, spring flowers and white pepper. Less unctuous than the Chassagne villages but more imploded today (these 55-year-old vines are planted on shallow soil over calcaire but are not particularly high on the hillside). Offers lovely balance and mineral energy, finishing with noteworthy rising length and brisk acidity. But this wine is less evolved and showy than the Ancegnières, which has the fat of a baby Bâtard-Montrachet. Colin noted that it was essential to control yields in 2017 in vineyards like this one that were severely frosted in 2016--and even more important in 2018.

Minimalist approach to Burgundy wines

Established in Chassagne-Montrachet in 2001 through the collaboration of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey (both hailing from historic Burgundy winemaking families) the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate comprises approximately 13 hectares of vineyards across the appellations Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d'Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist: no batonnage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board.

Pierre-Yves’ vineyard holdings are centred on the Côte de Beaune appellation of St-Aubin (including the Premiers Crus of Chatèniere, Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (including the Premiers Crus of Chenevottes and Caillerets).

Pierre-Yves’ cellar is shared with his wife, Caroline Morey. The daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, whose family has cultivated vines in Chassagne since the 16th century, Caroline created her own domaine in 2014.
