Maison Leroy was founded by François Leroy in 1868 and quickly became one of Burgundy`s top négociants. The maison is now led by one of the most influential women in the French wine industry, Lalou Bize-Leroy – who also manages Domaine Leroy and Domaine d`Auvenay. This release is the maison’s 1982 Chassgane-Montrachet Premier Cru, of which only a few bottles are still available on the market. The 1982 vintage for Burgundy was quite mixed, although the year tended to be substantially better for whites than it was for reds.

Hand Picked Burgundies

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988). Maison Leroy was founded by François Leroy as a négociant house in 1868 in the village of Auxey-Duresses and is today headed up by the renowned Lalou Bize-Leroy.

Unlike Domaine Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay, Maison Leroy represents a portfolio of wines selected by Lalou, but not made by Lalou. Vignerons from across Burgundy will submit their wines for evaluation and, following a blind tasting, Lalou will select just a few to be bottled under the Maison label.
