Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded in 1999 by the inimitable Jean-Claude Basset. With holdings in some of the most prestigious appellations of Burgundy, viticulture and winemaking is meticulous and is both organic and biodynamic. The Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyeres is produced from a 0.74ha parcel of vines planted in 1902 and spent 16 months in French oak, of which 47% was new. 2015 was an excellent vintage and this can be expected to offer great pleasure from 2020 until 2040.

The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a feisty, rather volatile bouquet that feels feral and animally, revealing notes of sage and dried blood in the glass. The palate is sweet and candied, displaying saturated tannin and touches of gingerbread and dried fig toward a finish that does seem to gain more delineation with aeration. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin1st November 2018

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
