The 1996 Charmes-Chambertin from Domaine Armand Rousseau is a testament to the longevity and finesse of this esteemed producer. Now mature, it presents a complex bouquet of dried cherries, forest floor, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is harmonious, with fine-grained tannins supporting flavours of red currant, sous-bois, and a hint of truffle. The vibrant acidity characteristic of the vintage imparts freshness, leading to a persistent, elegant finish. A remarkable example of aged Burgundy, reflecting both its grand cru terroir and the meticulous craftsmanship of Rousseau.
86 Vinous
Palish cherry red. Pungent aromas of tart red berries, framboise, eucalyptus and rhubarb. Sweet, fleshy and smooth, but offers only modest clarity and thrust for a `96. Finishes with rather light tannins and a suggestion of heat. Quite gently extracted.
