Situated between Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, the origins of Château de Chambrun date all the way back to 1775. Today, the 33.3-hectare vineyard is planted to 60% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and all the grapes are harvested by hand. Château Chambrun is the flagship wine which comes from a smaller 6.8-hectare vineyard. The 2010 vintage has developed beautifully, revealing notes of cedar, black currants, mocha and hints of liquorice.

Vinous
Bright ruby-red. Redcurrant, toffee and sexy oak on the nose. Sweet, smooth and thick in the mouth, with very round, fine-grained flavors of currant, chocolate and mocha. This reminded me of a 2009 in its lush texture but there's enough acidity and dusty tannins here to give the wine good support. (This chateau's regular 2010 release showed more of a late-harvest character and couldn't hide a tired nut skin aspect.)Stephen Tanzer1st July 2013
