Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Dujac is undoubtedly one of Burgundy’s finest wine producers. Originally founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, the estate is currently managed by his sons Jeremy and Alec Seysses, and daughter-in-law Diana. This release comes from ‘Les Gruenchers’, a lieu-dit north of the village of Chambolle-Musigny where Dujac owns a 0.32 parcel. 2009 was a particularly successful vintage for Domaine Dujac, producing red wines with ripe and complex fruit, but without a hint of jamminess.

Good bright, dark red. Subdued red fruits on the nose. Liqueur-like cherry and raspberry flavors seem a bit undifferentiated but are not overly sweet. In a rather soft, lush style, finishing with a hint of bitter chocolate and smooth tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2011

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers wafts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, spices and raspberries. This is an understated, pretty 2009. The Gruenchers is at times a bit fleeting. Otherwise it is a fine, nicely balanced effort. This bottle was quite a bit less impressive than the bottle I tasted earlier in the year. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021.

My tasting at Dujac was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Burgundy in late November/early December 2011. I tasted through all the 2010s in barrel and 2009s in bottle. The domaine’s 2009s are among the wines of the vintage.

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
