Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes Georges Roumier 2010 is a Premier Cru Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. Christophe Roumier produces this wine from rocky soils that impart a piercing mineral character and structural tension. The 2010 vintage allowed the wine to age with balanced tannins and a deep, peppery intensity. It offers a structured, sophisticated experience and a broad finish of smoked meat, dark berries and violets that reflects the site’s potential to produce wine with considerable gravitas and depth.

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes is a touch rounder and deeper than the villages. Layers of dark red fruit caress the palate on the generous, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity. 2018-2029.

Good full, deep red. Redcurrant, smoke and tobacco on the nose; not a black fruit style. Lush and broad but less sweet and showy than the Clos de la Bussiere today. Possesses good vinosity but not quite the high notes I'd expect to find in a vintage like 2010. Boasts good finesse and noteworthy breadth in the middle palate but the tannins are a bit youthfully edgy.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2013

Domaine Georges Roumier

A Icon of Fine Burgundy

One of Burgundy's most famous producers - founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the domaine was passed to his son Jean-Marie in 1957 and eventually on to his grandson Christophe in the early 1990s. Vines are either rented from family members or managed on a share-cropping basis and the cellar team operate a dynamic approach to winemaking, subtly altering their techniques depending on the vineyard and vintage. Some fruit is fully destemmed before fermentation while some is partially destemmed. A cool maceration takes place before fermentation, which takes place in wooden vats, and punch downs happen twice a day. Use of new oak is judicious - only around 20% for the village wines, 35% for the Premier Crus and 50% for the Grand Crus.

If Georges Roumier only produced Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos St Denis, the winery would still be considered one of the greatest in Burgundy, but their other-worldly Musigny Grand Cru elevates their status among the great wineries of France to legendary.
