The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Châtelots from Ghislaine Barthod is a Premier Cru red Burgundy crafted from Pinot Noir, exclusively sourced from the Les Châtelots vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, Côte de Nuits. Domaine Ghislaine Barthod, established in the early 1990s, is known for its meticulous approach to vineyard management, focussing on sustainable practices. This wine offers scents of cherry, raspberry and subtle floral notes, intertwined with earthy undertones. The palate reveals a balanced structure, with defined tannins and lively acidity.

Barthod’s 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Chatelots displays scents and flavors of ginger- and mace-dusted, framboise distillate-sprinkled black raspberry. Fruit skin tartness and fruit pit piquancy add invigorating to a firm, bright palate presence, leading to a finish of energetic tenacity. This wound-up Pinot should keep going for the better part of a decade. - David Schildknecht

(25% new oak) Good bright red. Distinctly dark in its fruit aromas (black cherry, blackberry), but with lovely floral lift. Ripe and sappy but taut, with pronounced acidity giving grip and energy to the wine's maraschino cherry and floral flavors. Not at all overly sweet but boasts excellent intensity and finishes ripe and long. Incidentally, Barthod purchased some more Chatelots vines in 2009, as well as some Gruenchers.
