With more than 500 years of history, Domaine Comte Georges de de Vogüé is one of the most famous wine producers in Chambolle-Musigny. Today the estate is headed by its 20th generation – Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. This release is a textbook Chambolle-Musigny, lovely smooth and harmonious, showing ripe red fruits and a distinctive depth, all complemented by notes of forest floor and mushroom on the elegant finish. Ready to be enjoyed now.

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny is fantastic. It boasts incredible aromatic complexity, gorgeous textural finesse and seemingly endless layers of fruit. Suave yet firm tannins support the fruit through to the highly attractive, delineated finish. This is a great way to start a survey of the domaine’s 2010s. Anticipated maturity. 2016-2025.
Long-time oenologist Francois Millet was away during my visit to Burgundy, so I can’t relay his always visually evocative thoughts on recent vintages. At the end of the day, though, these wines need no words; they speak for themselves, and then some. Commercial director Jean-Luc Pepin was kind enough to show me all of the 2010s and 2009s (from bottle), including the seldom seen Bourgogne Blanc. I will report on the 2009s in the April issue.

Very sinewy and energetic. Bone-dry finish and even a bit austere on the palate. But very much in the de Vogüé style. Bitter cherries on the front palate. Bracing finish. Impressive persistence suggests this may have a great future. (JR)
