Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Denis Mortet is a family-owned estate run by Laurence and her two children, Clémence and Arnaud. The Domaine was originally founded in 1956 by Charles Mortet with a single hectare of vines to his name. This release is from Aux Beaux-Bruns, a Premier Cru site of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. 2008 was a successful vintage for red Burgundy, combining a rich, pure fruit character with fine, silky tannins.
89 Vinous
(malo nearly finished) Dark red with ruby highlights. Blackberry and bitter chocolate on the nose. Deep and lush but with lovely lift and grip, and a rocky pungency, to the flavors of blackberry and cocoa powder. Finishes broad and serious, with excellent length and lift. These vines always ripen early, like the Clos Vougeot, notes Mortet, which may explain the success of this cuvee in 2008.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2010
