Founded in 1865, Camille Giroud is a boutique négociant business based in Beaune. In 2001 the Maison was sold to a group of American investors, and it is currently managed by Carel Voorhuis, who continues to craft seductive and terroir-driven wines. This release comes from Giroud’s south-east facing plot within the Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard. The 2008 is a classy and well-balanced Pinot Noir, showing a lovely maturity. Expect notes of black and red cherry, spices, undergrowth and fresh mushrooms.

(aged in close to 50% new oak) Good bright, full red. High-toned aromas of peppery red fruits. Pliant, sweet and minerally, but with the wine's new oak component currently masking its underlying fruit. Ultimately suave in texture but tightens up on the back end and finishes with serious tannins and an iron flavor. (The Clos Vougeot showed very good potential but was gassy and reduced.)Stephen Tanzer1st March 2010

Almost paler than the Santenay. Heady and seductive nose. Very solid and even rather majestic. Very good effort that really does respect the appellation. Amazing that this is on taste tonight! Great substance and a little bit of oak. (JR)
