Chablis Valmur 2009 from Domaine François Raveneau is a powerhouse Chablis Grand Cru sourced from a vineyard often considered the most muscular in the appellation. The 2009 vintage was warmer than average, resulting in a wine of immense concentration and a slightly richer texture than usual for this site. Raveneau’s signature use of old oak feuillettes has integrated seamlessly, providing a gentle oxidative edge that complements the dense fruit. The profile features notes of apricot, lemon oil and a distinct smoky minerality that suggests wet wool and flint. Despite the solar nature of the year, Raveneau’s old vines have preserved a firm acidic backbone that keeps the wine focused and energetic.

The 2009 Chablis Valmur is quite closed. There is plenty of power in the glass, but not much else. Today the Valmur isn't showing much. It is the only 2009 that appears to be showing the ill effects of its recent bottling. This will be an interesting bottle to re-visit in another 6-12 months. Antonio Galloni1st August 2011
