The Chablis Montmains Laurent Tribut 2023 is a 1er Cru Chablis white wine produced from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the Montmains Vineyard. The vineyard is planted on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils that are renowned for their ability to enhance minerality. This 2023 vintage showcases a structured profile with a distinct salinity. Aromas of citrus peel and white flowers emerge on the nose, leading to a palate marked by purity, stony nuances and a subtly spiced finish.
Vinous
As usual, the 2023 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru was taken directly from stainless-steel vat. This has the best aromatics of the four cuvées tasted at Tribut with touches of oyster shell that tincture the citrus fruit. There's a nice reduction at play here. The palate is a little richer in style, a touch more viscous than the Côte de Léchet, countered by a keen line of acidity. Again, there is a touch of spice towards the finish with a little more persistence on the aftertaste. Good potential here. Neal Martin1st August 2024

Complexity and Tradition

The small, family-run domaine of Laurent Tribut is based in the Chablis village of Poinchy. Tribut is the son-in-law of Vincent Dauvissat and began making his wines in the Dauvissat’s cellar before starting his own domaine. He has now passed winemaking duties on to his daughter, Solange.

The domaine consists of 6ha of vineyards including holdings in the Premiers Crus of Beauroy, Côte de Lechet and Montmains, as well as several village-level parcels. Low yields in the vineyards and patient work in the cellar, with wines fermented in steel and matured in neutral French oak barrels, produce classic, long-lived Chablis wines with more than a passing resemblance to the master himself, Monsieur Dauvissat. The Premier Cru wines may require four to five years of ageing before they are ready to drink, while even the village-level wines will benefit from two to three years in bottle before they are broached.
