Domaine Raveneau is arguably the finest wine producer in Chablis with a solid reputation across the globe. The Domaine was established by François Raveneau in 1948 and is currently run by cousins Isabelle and Maxime. Raveneau pioneered the use of Côte d`Or winemaking in Chablis, including barrel fermentation and extended lees contact. This release comes from Butteaux, a Premier Cru climat where Raveneau owns a 1.5-hectare plot of 50-year-old vines. The 2009 vintage exhibits mineral-driven notes, typical of Chablis, alongside hints of citrus and subtle oak influence from careful maturation. With a magnum format, it offers extended aging potential, inviting exploration of its evolving characteristics over time.

Vinous
Quite closed on the nose, hinting at menthol and wet stone. Then juicy and tight in the mouth, more taut and incisive than silky today, and showing superb precision for the vintage. Solid mineral grip extends the finish and gives this premier cru excellent tension, but it will need five or six years to unwind.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2011
