Cervaro della Sala 2009 is a blended white wine composed of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Grechetto from the Antinori family`s estate in Umbria. The 2009 vintage experienced a warm growing season, which allowed the grapes to reach full ripeness while preserving their natural acidity. This wine was fermented and matured for six months in French oak barrels, undergoing full malolactic fermentation to develop a creamy texture. Noted for its ageing potential, the 2009 reveals complex layers of ripe stone fruit and hints of butter after 15 years, complemented by mineral undertones derived from the estate`s volcanic soils.

The 2009 Cervaro della Sala is opulent yet remarkably fresh, showing a green-tinged golden-yellow color brought about by maturity. Flowery underbrush, brioche, baked pears, nutmeg and hints of almond paste emerge from its richly enticing bouquet. It's silky and enveloping with stunning acidity that adds an unexpected freshness as masses of ripe orchard fruits are complicated by a saline tinge. It finishes with medium length, clean, yet still quite potent with a hint of hazelnut that slowly fades. Eric Guido1st October 2023

An Antinori Icon

While technically a wine rather than a winery, Marchesi Antinori's flagship red wine, Supertuscan Tignanello, has become an icon in its own right. Produced from the Tignanello estate, this wine is one of Italy’s most recognized and celebrated fine wines. Tignanello is a blend of mostly Sangiovese wines with lesser parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, showcasing the Antinori family's mastery in winemaking.

Situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the gently rolling hillsides between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, the Tenuta Tignanello vineyard produces these influential wines. Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet), and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region not to use white grapes. This innovation has made it a modern red wine that stands out among its peers.

The Antinori estate also produces a superb Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon Grappa, a full-bodied Bordeaux-style red called Guado al Tasso, and delicate yet refined white wines from Castello della Sala, adding to its portfolio of iconic wines. The legacy of the Antinori family is evident in every bottle of these exceptional Italian wines.
