Situated on Pomerol’s prized plateau neighbouring Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus, Certain de May is another of the exceptional Moueix stable. To quote the critic James Suckling, the 2008 vintage is "Almost exotic on the nose, with apricot, orange and blackberry. Medium- to full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Firm and well-made."

Good bright red-ruby. Complex nose melds dark fruits, licorice, flowers, mint, camphor and medicinal herbs. Youthfully clenched and seriously structured wine, with sweet dark berry fruit currently dominated by solid tannins. Quite backward and long on the aftertaste. Lay this one down.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2011

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the prized central plateau of Pomerol, Château Certan de May is situated adjacent to two other world famous Right Bank properties - Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus. The vineyards are characterised by the mix of clay and gravel typical of the commune and the winemaking has a focus on concentration and power. Michel Rolland was consulting in the cellar until 2012 when Jean-Claude Berrouet took over.

The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging around 50 years of age. Wines are fermented for between four and six weeks before around 18 months ageing in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.
