Cenit 2009 is a red wine from Viñas del Cenit, located in the Tierra del Vino de Zamora region of Spain. This wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Tempranillo grapes sourced from estate-owned vineyards aged between 80 and 100 years. These old vines are planted in sandy soils with clay deposits from the Duero River, contributing to the wine`s finesse and depth. Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (80% new and 20% reused), Cenit 2009 exhibits an intense, elegant, and complex profile. On the nose, it reveals balsamic and spicy notes intertwined with red and black fruits. The palate offers perfect balance and great complexity, capturing the elegance and strength of the Tempranillo grape. This vintage pairs well with red meats, stews, roasts, rice dishes, and cured cheeses.

A barrel sample of the 2009 Cenit was even more striking. Opulent, powerful yet elegant, and impeccably balanced, this superb offering from a great vintage will raise the bar to unparalleled heights for this region. The importer also presented the entire series of Cenits dating back to the first vintage in 2003 (all of which have been previously reviewed in this journal). Suffice it to say that they are all showing well and continuing to evolve. - Jay S Miller
