Drawing from the acclaimed Adrianna Vineyard, Bodega Catena Zapata crafts extraordinary wines, both reds and whites. Among the reds, three illustrious names stand out. Fortuna Terrae, Mundus Bacillus Terrae, and River Stones. While still relatively unknown and produced in limited quantities, these wines are truly remarkable and captivating. Fortuna Terrae originates from parcels with deeper soils, featuring limestone rock in the subsoil. It exhibits a more delicate, fragrant, and floral profile, with a lighter hue and a remarkably pleasurable palate. Its acidity adds a delightful touch to the overall experience.

The 2019 Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae has herbal and spicy aromas intermixed with flowers coming through as harmonious and very integrated. It comes from a part of the vineyard with slightly deeper soils with limestone at 70 centimeters. This plot provides very aromatic, lighter wines, floral, with fine tannins with chalky minerality and good grip. It fermented with 100% full clusters and matured in oak foudre for 18 months. 5,280 bottles were filled in October 2020.Luis Gutierrez30th November 2022

The 2019 Malbec Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae is made with grapes from parcel 6 of the Adrianna Vineyard, Uco Valley, planted in Gualtallary at a height of 4,400 feet and aged for 18 months in new and second use French barrels. The pure, intense and precisely judged nose offers delicate fruit such as sweet and sour cherry alongside hints of lavender and violet and faint herbal aromas. It"s relaxed and juicy on the palate with subtle, finely grained tannins and a little chalk. The finish is elongated by fruity flavors. The year helped with the nuanced freshness in this Malbec.Joaquin Hidalgo1st November 2021

Pioneers of Fine Winemaking in Argentina

Over more than a century, the Catenas have evolved into the pre-eminent winemaking family in Argentina. The family’s history in wine goes back to 1902 when Nicola Catena purchased his first Mendoza vineyard. Much more recently, in 1997, his grandson, Nicolás Zapata pioneered the idea of fine wine from Argentina. Inspired by Bordeaux and Napa, he was the first person to ally Old World winemaking sensibilities to the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza.

Bodega Catena Zapata is now managed by (Dr) Laura Catena, who continues to uphold the the family’s standard of excellence, harnessing the high-altitude terroir of the Andes through precision viticulture and a highly granular cellar regime to produce one of the finest wine portfolios in Argentina.

The flagship wine of the Catena portfolio is the Nicolás Catena Zapata cuvée in which ungrafted Malbec is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon from ‘grand cru’ multiple plots, all processed via 200 micro-vinifications which are then blended together and matured for 24 months in French oak, with a further two years in bottle before release.
