Château Lafite Rothschild`s second wine, Carruades de Lafite, is one of the oldest second wines in Bordeaux, first produced in the 1850s. The 2008 vintage is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. An elegant, medium-bodied wine, boasting notes of sandalwood, tobacco leaves, graphite and hints of violets.

(51% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 3% petit verdot and 1% cabernet franc) Medium-deep ruby. Classic Medoc nose of blackcurrant, graphite and cedar is presently a little closed. Enters the mouth full and silky, with bright blackberry and plum flavors and fine-grained tannins. Finishes moderately long and very clean, though just a touch warm.Ian d'Agata1st May 2009
