Château Calon-Ségur is one of the stars of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with a heritage dating back to 1147. This release is the 2008 vintage of its grand vin, a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, produced in a classic style. The wine is in a fantastic place right now, showing beautiful fruit on the nose and palate, complemented by well-integrated tannins.

Vinous
The 2008 Calon-Ségur has a perfumed, floral bouquet that is wonderfully detailed; raspberry and cranberry fruit flanked by rose petal and subtle iris aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a crisp line of acidity. This is brisk and focused with a light black pepper note cropping up on the finish, the aftertaste judiciously sprinkled with pencil shaving and tobacco notes. This is a very fine Calon-Ségur from the Gasqueton era, but it needs more time. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.Neal Martin1st May 2018
